LA28 Olympics digital experience

LA28 Olympics digital experience

Let’s set the scene…

It’s the LA28 Summer Olympics, and the world is roaring with excitement. Thousands of people coming from different countries, languages, & backgrounds are flying in, attending events, and exploring Los Angeles.

How do we give diverse LA28 attendees from all over the world a centralized & accessible way to access accurate information and a personalized experience?

The context

Deloitte Digital was approached by the International Olympics Committee (IOC) to help create a proof-of-concept app and digital event experience demo for the LA28 Olympics.

This project won Deloitte a contract with the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) valued at $975K, with a $4M+ upside for Phase 2.

The process

During the critical proof-of-concept stages, I focused heavily on bridging the gap between abstract business requirements and stakeholder buy-in. I collaboratively built the low-fidelity wireframes, user flows, and journey maps that defined our product's creative narrative.

By prioritizing clear storytelling over polished visuals, my designs served as the primary tool to spark inspiration, build deep understanding, and secure executive alignment across the table.

The solution

Introducing the LA28 digital experience

Introducing the LA28 digital experience

Not just an email with your tickets…and not just an app. A personalized guide that’ll plan your Los Angeles itinerary for you based on your tickets, find the best bites inside the venue and out, use AR to guide your way when you’re lost, and help you stay connected to the event, your way.

Deep-diving

Let's go on a journey to the LA28 Olympics!

Let's go on a journey to the LA28 Olympics!

Meet our fan: Hina.

Hina Sato

Hina Sato

Hina, a reporter born and raised in Osaka, has dreamed of attending the Olympics since childhood—ever since hearing stories from her father, who competed in Track & Field at Sydney 2000. For her, attending LA28 in person is both the fulfillment of that lifelong dream and a chance to explore a city she’s always wanted to visit.

Let’s put Hina in the shoes of some of the key features I designed. Click each section to deep dive:

Pre-game experience

Plan and preview the mobile journey before the action begins.

In-game experience

Track live moments, match context, and real-time fan engagement as play unfolds.

Post-game experience

Recap the highlights, outcomes, and follow-up actions after the final whistle.

Reflections

This project helped me explore multi-modality & feature prioritization given business goals.

This project helped me explore multi-modality & feature prioritization given business goals.

  1. Although primarily an in-app experience, designing this demo allowed me to explore the breadth of interactions possible between the digital and physical realm — how to design AR features to coordinate with users’ physical locations, and how to be contextually aware for critical emergency use cases, or even when users want to grab a bite of food.

  2. One of the client's asks was also to integrate their partners, including Google, which brought a level of thought to figure out how to best integrate tools such as Google Lens & Gemini.

  3. Because of the project’s proof-of-concept nature, I learned how to filter through what the most effective, realistic, and impactful ideas would be in a world where everything is art-of-the-possible. What is worth the user’s time and will actually benefit them? When the sky is the limit, business needs and the user’s realisitc experiences will ground you.

What's next for the project

This proof-of-concept demo I worked on helped secure a $975K contract, in which Deloitte and the IOC will collaborate to refine and bring these concepts to life. In 2028, some of these initial concepts may be featured in the official LA28 Olympics app or experience.
